Don Thompson Obituary

Don Mark Thompson, age 65, passed away November 6, 2023 at Utah Valley Hospital due to complications after heart surgery to replace a valve. Don was born May 26,1958 in Montpelier, Idaho to Stanly Gene Sr. and Norene Thompson. He was the third of four children; Stanley Gene Jr. (Betty), William T (Bill) (Ellen), Carole Ann (Greg). He spent his life in Cokeville working sheep and cattle and raising his three kids Derrick Ron, Tarynn Dawn, and Trevor Don. Affectionately known as Donny to anyone that met him although he never introduced himself as Donny. He never met a stranger; he was gregarious and fun to be around. He enjoyed watching both of his son’s play sports. When he went to Star Valley to watch his daughter cheer or dance you would see Don surrounded by her friends in their Star Valley Braves uniforms. During wrestling tournaments when Don showed up to watch Derrick wrestle for Cokeville and Tarynn cheer for Star Valley you knew where Don was sitting because in the sea of orange and black Star Valley’s maroon and gold surrounded him. Don made an impression on everyone he met, whether it was teenagers at a sports game or adults on a Ferry from Alaska. Those who knew him have a crazy story about something he did with them that makes them smile and laugh.  You couldn’t be around Donny for too long before he convinced you to do something that probably wasn’t a good idea. But you did it anyway. He married the love of his life Sharon Shimmin on July 15th 2022 adding Cole Shimmin and Randi Shimmin to his family. Don was clever and witty, he enjoyed using his wit on his unsuspecting grandkids delighted in their various responses as some of them showed promise to take after Grandpa Don. Don was greeted in death by his father Stanly Gene, his Uncle Ron Thompson, and his oldest brother Stanley. Don is survived by his wife Sharon, his mother Norene, his children Derrick (Sheila) Thompson, Tarynn (Jon Best) Thompson, Trevor (Ceara) Thompson, Cole (Dakota) Shimmin, and Randi (Elliot Finck) Shimmin and his 11 grandkids. Brennen Hoopes, Courtlynn Hoopes, Olivia and Vivienne Best (Tarynn) Chloe and Gaige Thompson(Trevor), Presley Shimmin(Cole), Blayke, Kobe, Diem Thompson (Derrick), and Oaklee Finck (Randi), Bill Thompson and his sister Carole Ann Goodman and their families.
