Russell Hansen Obituary

Russell Dee Hansen of Yuma, Arizona, passed away Sunday, May 26, 2019 at the age of 88.

Russ was born October 11,1930 to Mabel Hansen and Albert Peter Hansen in Montpelier, Idaho.  He grew up in Montpelier learning the value of hard work and an ethic of loyalty and honor. On December 29th,1948 he went to Pocatello and enlisted into the US Army. While stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington he met Lucy Ann Siterik, whom he would later marry.

He was among the first troops deployed to the Korean War. Serving as a radio operator and reconnaissance team member he was involved in the worst engagements of that war. Those memories would torment him until his death.

Russ obtained an Associate degree from Boise Junior College and later a Bachelor of Science from St. Mary’s University. He interned as a hospital lab technician at Harbor View Hospital in Seattle. In 1962 he returned to his hometown and was employed at the Bear Lake Memorial Hospital.

In 1967 he moved to Brigham City, Utah to work at the Cooley Memorial Hospital. He went on to work at hospitals in Grand Junction, Colorado and Yuma, Arizona. In 1978 he returned to Brigham City and found employment at Thiokol (an aerospace company). After his retirement from Thiokol he returned to Yuma, enjoying the climate, golf and fishing.

Because of health issues in 2018 he moved to the Beehive Assisted Living Home in Park City, Utah. He resided there until his death.

He is survived by three sons, John V Hansen, Terry Dee Hansen and Ricky Russ Hansen. His only surviving sibling, a sister, Helen Hansen Smith, resides in Ogden, Utah.

There will be a graveside service at the Montpelier Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 1st.
